I’ve been spending an inordinate amount of time in recent months focussed on raising funds for Huong Truong’s campaign for the seat of Fraser in Melbourne.
My politics is very practical.
What did we need, I asked myself 33 years ago when Labor were betraying us on the environment ( how things haven’t changed) We needed the Greens. So I rolled up my sleeves and threw myself into forming the party in Victoria.
Where can I be most useful in creating the political change we need so we can have hope about the future, I’ve asked myself over the decades. I’ve been a party builder and organiser, a local Government councillor, a Senator, and currently Fundraiser in Chief ( volunteer) for Huong’s campaign.
What do we need now? Greens like Huong being elected, an awesome, experienced, staunch, whipsmart woman of colour, grounded in community.
What does Huong need to win?
A massive ground campaign. Tick, underway. The biggest election campaign by any party that the western suburbs of Melbourne has ever seen. The fifth biggest Greens campaign ever in Victoria’s history.
Paid staff to organise those thousands of volunteers working on that ground campaign.
Money to pay those staff. I’ve rolled up my sleeves to bring in the dough - that means donations from lots of people because we don’t take / refuse to be corrupted by large corporate donations like Labor, Liberal and the Nationals.
We’ve raised over $100,000 so far, (thank you generous donors) but still need more.
So let’s do an art auction we said.
Let me give you the low down on organising an art auction. It’s taken a shipload of work by some very dedicated volunteers. But it’s paid off. We’ve now got a fabulous collection of art which has been generously donated by a bunch of amazing artists.
But it’s taken a lot of time. And the auction ends on Saturday. That’s only three days away.
What we most need now are buyers.
The auction is online, so anyone can be part of the fun! You don’t need to be in Melbourne, in this winnable Greens seat, to help out and to score some great art!
Have a look - we are really proud of how the catalogue has turned out. I hope something will appeal to you!
