My horse Diablo also liked the crab apples. And mum has remembered that the jacaranda likely came from the local Coles variety store - a damaged plant that had a broken branch and was being sold at a discounted price.
Happy Mother’s Day to Margaret and here’s to her gift of a bountiful garden and traditions of preserving that bounty. For many years after my mother passed away I savoured the plum jam that she’d made from the tree in the garden of our family home. She had labelled the jars and dated them - 2012. She died a little later that same year. At some point the jam ran out but memories of her and my gratitude for her care and providing continues.
For the record, I'm my father's daughter and I like grapefruits... but not that many! Juicing them is good. Dad liked grapefruit juice too. Janet, you didn't mention the two nectarine trees in the backyard when we were kids. More prolific than the apricots but they never were preserved, because they didnt last long! Yum! 😋
I don't remember the nectarine trees as clearly as the apricot - I remember the trees but I think they were getting elderly and not producing as much fruit by my late childhood
Great you've become the crab apple jelly apprentice too Janet, to carry on Mums legacy. It's a very specialised job as you've explained and not for every body. I take my baker's hat off to you. By the way, preserves are preserves. 2 year old jams and jellies are young! Happy to take some of your old work off your hands, any time. I'm sure it's still fabulous. 😊

This post was like a warm hug! Thank you for sharing, bless your Mum!
